As a down-to-earth regent, passionate hunter and nature enthusiast, as a philanthropist and patron of the arts, Prince Regent Luitpold is the perfect representative of the Golden Age of Bavaria at the end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th century. <\/p>\n\n

During his reign from 1886, the state experienced a long period of peace, economic recovery and cultural flowering. Under his patronage, Munich developed into a widely-acclaimed art and cultural metropolis which began to attract guests from all four corners of the earth. Prince Regent Luitpold\u2019s reign was characterised by great modesty, chivalry, a passion for customs and hunting traditions and human kindness. It was the complete opposite to the splendid solitude of his predecessor, King Ludwig II. <\/p>\n\n

With its cheerful conviviality and joie-de-vivre, the period of rule of the Prince Regent is still today often lovingly referred to as the \u00bbgood old days\u00ab.<\/p>\n\n

Luitpold\u2019s reign came during a period characterised by radical social upheaval. It is not without reason that the end of the 19th century is referred to as the \u00bbFin de Si\u00e8cle\u00ab, a turning point and the dawn of a new era of great change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
