Charles Gustav attended the military academy Sor\u00f8 and in 1648, at the end of the Great Northern War, he served as commander of the Swedish forces in Germany. In October, he led the siege and plundering of Prague. In 1754, the Swedish parliament appointed him heir to Queen Christina.
