The painter prince and portrait artist Franz Lenbach (1836-1904) shows Princess Marie Therese at the age of about 35 years as the mother of nine children. Her serious expression could have something to do with the death of her daughter Notburga who died as an infant at Amsee in 1883.

The portrait photograph by court photographer Joseph Albert (1825-1886), shows Prince Ludwig in uniform at the age of 40. At the top left, he is wearing the Knight’s Cross of the Military Order of Marie Therese, on the right he is wearing the 1866 army commemorative badge, underneath that is the Order of Saint Hubert and below that the Order of Saint George. In 1886, it was apparent that this son of Prince Regent Luitpold (1821-1912) would be the future Regent of Bavaria.
