DREAMS BECOME REALITY IN LUDWIGS FESTSPIELHAUS
King Ludwig II was a »theatre« king who understood the world as a stage. He designed his own sketches for a modern festival theatre in 1864 with the famous architect Gottfried Semper. More than one hundred years later, with the laying of the foundation stone in 1998, his vision became reality: Ludwigs Festspielhaus was built.
Ludwigs Festspielhaus in Füssen at the Forggensee Lake is embedded in the picturesque, castle park landscape with its majestic mountains, deep blue lakes and the world-famous silhouette of Neuschwanstein Castle always in view.
»Build a castle like a dream, build with a powerful hand and its name shall be Future.« From the world-premiere musical Ludwig². The award-winning musical Ludwig² was, is and will be an integral part oft he repertoire in Ludwigs Festspielhaus. Nowhere else is the landscape more royal, the mountains and castles more majestic, and the stories about the fairy-tale King Ludwig II more mystical.
The king was not allowed to build another castle before he passed away. Thus, ‘his’ festival theatre and his own musical were created at this magical place.
