KALTENBERGER RITTERTURNIER – WELCOME TO THE MIDDLE AGES
Heinrich Prince of Bavaria organises a spectacular jousting tournament at Kaltenberg Castle every July. It is currently the biggest of its kind and attracts tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world each and every year.
The Kaltenberg Castle grounds turn into a medieval village on three weekends in July. As soon as the visitors step through the highly-visible gateway, they enter the fantastical world of jugglers and jesters, of sutlers and minstrels, of knights, craftsmen and innkeepers. With impressive attention to detail, medieval life in all of its dimensions is portrayed by many different actors. What do we ask of our visitors? To watch, to marvel, to take part, to taste and to try out different things!
The highlight of the day is, without doubt, the Jousting Tournament which is perfectly re-choreographed each year and which takes place every evening in the Kaltenberg Arena, which seats more than ten thousand spectators. Daring horsemen charge into the festively-decorated arena, brave knights have to prove themselves in life-or-death duels. Fire, lighting and music turn the tournament into an event which can be experienced with all of the senses and which young and old alike are unlikely to forget for a long time.
