König Ludwig Dunkel is Germany’s market leader in the upmarket dark beer segment. This is a credit to Luitpold Prince of Bavaria who revitalised this old Bavarian beer variety after many decades of decline and turned it into the Bavarian speciality beer in the high-price segment.
König Ludwig Dunkel is produced in line with traditional Bavarian brewing methods in copper brewing vessels, drawing upon the age-old brewing experience of the House of Wittelsbach. The dark malt, which gives the beer its typical colour, is particularly carefully caramelised for this beer variety. Combined with the best aroma hops, the result is a light and sweet, yet pleasantly malty and substantial dark beer – the ultimate classic from the König Ludwig Schloßbrauerei Kaltenberg.
