Charles XI on horseback (*1655, crowned 1660, †1697).
Charles XI, son of Charles X Gustav, commissioned multiple paintings of himself on horseback, as well as portraits of some of his valuable favourite horses. The horse in this wintery image, measuring almost 9 square metres, could be his favourite stallion, named ‘Little Englishman’. In the background is the Battle of Lund on 4 December 1676.
