Charles X Gustav (*1622, crowned 1654, †1660),
son of John Casimir of Zweibrücken-Kleeburg (1589–1652) and his wife, Catherine Vasa (1584–1638), sister of Gustav II Adolf. Charles Gustav attended the military academy Sorø and in 1648, at the end of the Great Northern War, he served as commander of the Swedish forces in Germany. In October, he led the siege and plundering of Prague. In 1754, the Swedish parliament appointed him heir to Queen Christina. As King, he went to war against Poland/Lithuania and Denmark for supremacy in the Mare Balticum.
