As Duke of Zweibrücken, Charles XII commissioned new urban planning by Swedish architects. The Karlskirche was built in 1708–1711 as a Lutheran counterpart to the reformed Alexanderkirche. Architects: Haquinius Schlang, Jonas Eriksson Sundahl (1678–1762). Destroyed in 1945, rebuilt in 1964–1970 using old plans.
